ExitPlan calculator

Retirement Calculator for Self-Employed People

This calculator consolidates the search intent behind retirement number, retirement age, monthly investment and self-employed retirement calculators into one experience. Creating five nearly identical calculators would add crawl clutter without helping users make a better decision.

Use the tool to test scenarios. Nothing entered here is sent to ExitPlan or stored on the server. The calculator is educational and uses simplified assumptions, so it should not be treated as individualized investment, tax or financial advice.

Run a retirement scenario

Projected balance at retirement
Illustrative retirement asset target
Projected gap / surplus

This simplified calculator does not model taxes, fees, inflation in every cash flow, Social Security claiming rules, required minimum distributions or sequence-of-returns risk. The withdrawal rate and return are assumptions, not guarantees.

What the calculator estimates

The calculator projects a future balance from current savings, monthly contributions, years until retirement and an assumed annual return. It also estimates a retirement asset target from annual spending, expected reliable income and a chosen withdrawal-rate assumption.

The difference between the projected balance and the target can help you decide whether to increase contributions, change the retirement age or revisit the spending goal.

Why the assumptions are visible

Return, inflation and withdrawal assumptions drive retirement projections. Hiding them creates false precision. ExitPlan shows the assumptions so you can test a conservative scenario, a base case and a stronger case rather than trusting one forecast.

How self-employed people should use the monthly result

If the required monthly contribution is higher than your normal business cash flow can support, do not force the number. Test a later retirement age, a lower spending target or a variable contribution system that adds more during strong months. A sustainable plan is more useful than an aggressive plan that fails during the first slow quarter.

No. Returns are assumptions used for scenario analysis. Actual investment outcomes can be materially different.
